Team Mount Sinai
Toronto Chapter
Team Mount Sinai was conceived in 2002 as a small family team. By 2009, the team evolved to include 17 participants and raised over $30,000 in 2009 – almost doubling their effort in 2008!
“..we decided with the popularity of our support groups to take the opportunity to form a team and unite in our fundraising.” Brenda O’Connor
The team participants include patients, hospital staff (Registered Nurses and administration) and support group members.
Team Sinai relies on many ways to reach people such as:
- E-pledge: setting up online pledges and sharing them with friends and family
- In-person: donations from patients who come in for support
- Announcement: at the bimonthly support group meetings
- Email: sending email invitations, reminders and thank you notes to friends and family
- Social Media: utilizing social media tools like Facebook, Twitter and Yahoo Groups to reach participants
Asking for support!
Team Sinai relies on their network including personal and professional connections to ask for support. For example, when asking, they refer back to their family, friends, neighbours, coworkers and physicians. As well as, asking individuals who they sponsored in other charities.
Key success factors:
What makes Team Sinai a successful story is their focus on:
Keeping their team motivated through ongoing communications and updates;
Sending Thank you notes to participants, donors and team members;
Keeping in touch with participants and donors;
Asking the dedicated individuals to get involved first. |
