2009 Top Pledge Earners Club
Thank you to all of our Heel ‘n’ Wheel-a-Thon 2009 Top Pledge Earners (TPEs) for helping us raise over $1.77 million! We could not have reached our fundraising goal without your commitment.  Being a TPE in 2009 offered even more benefits than in previous years – all of the TPEs were entered in a draw to win a trip to the CCFC’s annual Congress. Congratulations to Corrina, who won an all expense paid trip to Toronto to experience this great CCFC event!  We also held our annual TPE draw, rewarding two Economy Class tickets valid for travel to any Air Canada scheduled destinations in North America including Hawaii, Mexico and the Caribbean. The lucky winner this year is Kelly of Toronto, Ontario!  Well done, Kelly!

Corrina Kotylak

Corrina Kotylak was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 1997 after being very sick for 6-12 months prior. At that time the doctors thought she could be one of the youngest people to be diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. She had her first operation 2000 which resulted in removal of some bowel.  And her second operation was in 2007. Six months later she went for a follow up appointment and the Crohn’s was already returning. Her doctor trialed a new drug on me and it worked very well.  She has been in remission and completely drug free since Nov 2008 and is feeling much better.

Corrina has been a Heel ‘n’ Wheel-a-thon Top Pledge Earner for four consecutive years.  According to her, the event has been a wonderful way to spend a day meeting people as well as spend time with family and friends the exercise is always a benefit as well! Her family and friends have continued supporting her by joining efforts to help raise funds to help find a cure for Crohn’s disease and Ulterative colitis.

Corrina is so grateful and can’t thank my family, doctor and friends, enough for the support they’ve demonstrated.  They have constantly reassured her never to give up hope.

Kelly was diagnosed in 2003 with Crohn's disease and has been actively involved with the Heel '''n' Wheel-a-Thon for the last three years. Kelly lives in Toronto and works as a real estate agent, but enjoys coming to Markham - where she grew up - to participate in the Heel 'n’ Wheel-a-Thon. She enjoys seeing familiar and new faces every year, and values the fact that everyone is there for the same cause.

She also appreciates the fact that many volunteers offer up their time to help organize the event. This year she did the walk with her father and sister, while her mother volunteered - a real family affair! Kelly enjoys seeing adults and children have fun at the event and enjoy the BBQ.

Even living with Crohn's disease, Kelly says she will continue to participate in Heel 'n Wheel-a-Thon until a cure is found. "I have great family and friends who have supported me over the last six years because they know how important it is to me."
